Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem, was established by an act of the Israeli parliament in 1953. It is the central institution for Holocaust documentation, education, and research. Its educational division produces some of the most widely used Holocaust teaching resources in the world, available free in many languages including English.
The Yad Vashem online archive includes the Central Database of Shoah Victims’ Names, an ongoing project to identify and record the names of every Jewish victim of the Holocaust. The database currently contains approximately 4.9 million names. The aim is to recover and preserve the identities of the murdered, against the regime’s intent that they should be erased without record.
Other resources include online exhibitions, photo archives, video testimony from survivors, downloadable lesson plans for teachers, and an extensive library of academic articles and source documents. The educational materials are written for several different age groups, from primary school to adult.
